Georgetown, with a revamped roster mostly consisting of freshmen and sophomores, has had an impressive 7-1 start. Coach Ed Cooley purposefully delayed their first road game to help the team build confidence and chemistry. Since a loss to Notre Dame, Georgetown has won five consecutive games by an average margin of 25.2 points.
Thomas Sorber, Georgetown’s standout player, leads the team in both scoring (15.8 points per game) and rebounding (8.9 per game). He has been recognized as Big East Freshman of the Week three times already. The Hoyas hold a narrow 27-26 lead over West Virginia in their all-time series, which dates back to 1995.
West Virginia’s recent success, especially in overtime, showcases their resilience under first-year coach Darian DeVries, who previously led Drake to three NCAA tournaments.
